	Earliest parts of parish church 11th century - Mentioned in the Doomsday Book From the end of April 2007 Cocking Parish Church became the Church of St Catherine of Siena, Cocking. An ancient down land church which had no known name for all of its 900 years finally got one. The 11th century Cocking Church had always been simply Cocking Church. But at the end of April 2007 it became 'the Church of St Catherine of Siena, Cocking', formally dedicated to a 14th century Italian woman who used her comparatively short life to serve the sick, the poor and the imprisoned. Although no one knows quite why, one of the church's two medieval bells is inscribed with St Catherine's name and the congregation decided to adopt her as their patron saint.	Catherine of Siena, was born 1347, died 1380

DURING THE LATER HALF OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY AROUND 1884 A BEAUTIFUL RANGE OF BRITISH GARDEN FLOWERS WERE CAPTURED AND BY THEN USING A NEW METHOD OF PRINTING CALLED CHROMOLITHOGRAPHY WERE ASSEMBLED INTO A BOUND BOOK CALLED SIMPLY THE GARDEN AND CONTAINING SOME 173 SEPARATE PRINTS IT IS THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE ORIGINALLY PAINTED BY LORD PAXTON ALLTHOUGH OVER 100 YEARS OLD THEY HAVE SURVIVED TWO WORLD WARS AND EXCEPT FOR A FEW MARGINAL TEARS TO SOME ARE IN REMARKABLY GOOD CONDITION THE BOOK NEEDS REBINDING EXPERTLY
